AUTHOR C.L. MONAGHAN EXPLAINS WHAT INSPIRED HER TO WRITE 'A MIDNIGHT GUNN NOVEL' SERIES

Even when I had begun plotting my Immaginario duet, I knew that I really wanted to write something gothic and mysterious. Gothic literature has stayed with me since university and it was always more my kind of thing. I would binge watch anything remotely gothic on screen, and listen to endless audiobooks from that genre. Sherlock Holmes is a family favourite, as was Penny Dreadful and I started to wonder what wonderous stories I could imagine if I amalgamated the two. I wanted to avoid the stereotypical ‘arrogant rich man’ found in many historical novels and have my main character generous, philanthropic and of good morals despite the constant battles with his dark powers. 

Lord Midnight Gunn has so much scope as a developing character, and the structure of the novels allow the story to evolve and expand to the extent that I have at least ten potential books in the series with the possibility of spin offs. It’s exciting, as a writer, to know that your ideas and characters have the legs to go the distance and beyond!
